My name is Arthur Peter van Leeuwen and i am what you would call a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra) I cycle everywhere I go and I do a bit of triathlon. I try and do a few sprints, a few olympic's and 3 or 4 halfs and a full Ironman every year
Although i do ride my bike a fair bit, it has not been since 2015 that I have cycled 4 day 640km ride. It has also been over a year since any triathlon thanks to COVID. You could say I am going from the couch to the Tour de Munster.
Originally from Toronto, Ontario in Canada, i moved here to Ireland in 2005. Why Ireland? I met a girl of course! She was from Cloyne and i thought it would be a good idea to follow her here. Although she moved to Canada the next year, i fell in love with this place and have made it my home.
I am a musician and an artist when not on the bike or swimming or running.
On Thursday August 5th, i will embark on a 640km journey through all the counties of Munster that will last four days culminating with an ascent of the viciously steep and much vaunted " Patricks Hill " in Cork City.
I will be joining 120 cyclists in this, the 21st edition of "the Tour de Munster".
on the web i am known as "Web Dev" for... Web Developer.
I am taking this challenge on to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland to help them provide much needed services for those affected by this debilitating condition in Cork City.
I am hoping to raise at least €3000 for Down Syndrome and Abigail
100% of all the donations i receive will go directly to provide these services.
I personally will cover all of the costs related to doing these cycles which include food, accomodation, cycling gear and training rides which will amount to over €1500.
